Our Story
Married 33 years, Mieko Komamizu and John Cantor are director/partners of Taiga Jack Enterprises - TJE. Mieko's background is in fashion. Her early life focused on patterning and women's fashion design - working for Tobelle in Osaka and Akira in Australia. Mieko left the fashion industry in 2006. Her accuracy and eye for detail supported renovation and agricultural projects, and running the AirBNB business on property in the Hunter Valley Australia. In addition to helping Taiga Jack's basketball career - through introduction to his agent - Mieko helps run the company's administrative details and ensures the smooth management of the farm and its premises. John Cantor is a former Australian school, state, national and international rowing champion. A basketball dad, he is a former banker, a successful businessman, a highly ranked martial artist - Bujinkan Taijutsu - practicing for 40 years, teacher and coach. His working career began at Westpac bank in staff training and legal - 10 years - followed by teaching ESL and Business communication in Japan for Matsushita - National Panasonic 10 years - at night - and the Osaka Prefectural School-board 10 years during the day. Instructed by Dr Masaaki Hatsumi - the Bujinkan Grandmaster - John also established the first Bujinkan foreigner's dojo in Tsurahashi Osaka in 1991. Prior to returning to Australia, he studied Japanese education and political economy graduating with an award winning thesis and a Masters degree in Asian Studies from the University of New England in Australia in 2000. From 2004 to 2016 John worked as a senior account manager for a data company that researched and reported on project decision-makers on all residential, commercial, and civil construction activity in Australia. This gave him unique access to construction industry decision-makers. His company award winning sales, account management and marketing skills generated from an appreciation of big data, lead management and the importance of focused prospecting. He also continued martial training and organised seminars in addition to buying renovating and selling properties in Sydney from 1995 - 2016. Today he raises cattle on his land in Australia, invests in property, trains martial artists, pursues trade and business opportunities in Japan as well as follow Japan's Bleague basketball.
